The Abbott Plum Pumps are preprogrammed by the Pharmacy Department at Carolinas Medical Center.  All intravenous medications (hemostatic agents, blood thinners and thrombolytic agents, antibiotics, etc.) are selected and the patient's weight is programmed.  After priming the cartridge, the infusion is initiated and all drip/flow rates are automatically calculated and infused.  Like the ventilators, the rates may be adjusted depending on a patient's tolerance.
