The VersaMed iVent ventilators were selected for their ease and usability during a mass casualty incident.  These ventilators are designed such that physicians, nurses, and paramedics can operate these with little recall involved.  After the oxygen source is connected to the unit, the only information required is the patient's weight.  When this is dialed in and the start button is pressed, the patient is ready to be connected to the ventilator circuit.  All settings, alarms, etc. are preset to the patient's weight so as to expedite placing any patient on a ventilator.  Certainly adjustments may be made as the patient tolerates.
